The Deneb quartet is named after a distant star.
Deneb is at least 150 times as luminous and intense as our sun.
The light leaving Deneb that we see now is light that left that star
at approximately the time the Romans were invading the British Isles, 1500 earth years ago.
It is located in the constellation called Cygnus, the swan. also known as the Northern Cross. It is one of the brightest stars in the sky and although it is on the other side of the milky way galaxy, it can be seen clearly without a telescope.

The musicians on this recording are magnificent. They all really got to the heart, mind, soul, and mystery of this particular work. You should find out about them all individually. ....Enzo Garcia, Dina Maccabee, and Charith Premawardhana.....I feel blessed that they participated in recording this. This artifact is my meditation on the vastness of space.

The metal percussion represents the celestial body of Deneb,
The strings are space, while the bass drum is earth.
It is amazing how light can travel such vast distances, and amazing
how sound can cross borders.
I first saw it late at night just above the treeline on Mt Shasta, Ca. I was in a perplexed state prior to going out to look at the stars. Finding Deneb in the sky that evening shifted my mood abruptly from a disturbed malaise to a feeling of humility and true wonder.
